Latest Greenhomes completed
Greenoak’s latest greenhomes scheme opened in Abbey Walk, Storrington. This development has produced 12 family houses at affordable rents for local families. Together with the adjacent development of 8 flats by Horsham Council, it has replaced a redundant local authority scheme.
David Edwards, Regional Director of the HCA which provided £945K towards the scheme said: “… Abbey Walk is the largest Code 4 project to be completed in the SE as a result of HCA funding. It sets a new, higher standard for environmentally responsible housing...”
An innovative approach has been used, by Greenoak, to ensure that the homes incorporate features that include highly efficient energy usage for cooking, heating, cooling and water usage. These features mean that the development will be ahead of current environmental standards for new homes and will reach Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. The homes will be ‘future-proofed’ and meet Lifetime Homes standard. This means that simple adaptations can be made to meet different needs of mobility and ability.
Tudor Court
Tudor Court in Walton Road, Woking was opened on Armistice Day by Cllr Richard Wilson, Lead member for Housing at Woking Council. Greenoak has been able to provide these new homes thanks to a new partnership with Redhill-based Raven Housing Trust. We now have 21 new apartments at affordable rents for older people which provide freedom for people with mobility needs.
They are very energy-efficient with a combined heat and power scheme, solar photo-voltaic panels and low-energy lighting which will result in reduced energy costs and carbon emissions. The heat and electricity are provided in partnership with Thameswey, Woking’s own power company.
Residents Mr and Mrs Thapa joined guests including the Mayor, for the formal opening of the scheme and other residents joined in the celebrations.
New Partnership
The Tudor Court apartments have been provided through a new partnership between local association, Greenoak Housing, and Redhill-based Raven Housing Trust, both members of the Wayfarer consortium. Raven owns Tudor Court while Greenoak manages these newly build homes to meet priority local needs. Woking Council who supported the acquisition has been able to offer these to older residents on the Council’s Housing Register thus freeing up much needed council houses for families. The purchase was assisted by £1.274M government grant for 21 units .
Chairs signing Partnership Agreement
‘Raven is delighted to be working with Greenoak for the first time to provide much needed highly quality affordable homes to older people in Woking. Both Associations have a strong track record in providing environmentally sustainable homes. Tudor Court is a further demonstration of both organisations’ environmental commitments, said Nicholas Harris, Raven’s Chief Executive.
School visit to greenhomes
Greenoak welcomed children from Storrington First School to Abbey Walk. The year 5 pupils are studying the environment and have been taking part in a variety of activities including constructing a greenhouse in the school grounds from recycled bottles. They were very interested in ecological design and discussed the energy and water saving features with scheme architect Jon Broome, and Greenoak’s Development Director, Adrian Buffery.
Greenoak has also provided Storrington First School with Children’s Safety Books ‘Out and About: Transport Safety’ as part of a special project sponsored by Greenoak to help ensure children’s safety awareness. Lady Gill Baker, Chair of Greenoak’s School Books scheme, accompanied by Board Member Elizabeth Phillips, presented the books. Greenoak has well established links with schools and supports the community with various projects encouraging greener lifestyles.

Greenoak has joined the Wayfarer Development consortium of housing associations in the south-east. Fellow Gold Award winner, Drum Housing Association is also a member of Wayfarer and it will be collaborating with Greenoak to produce the greenhomes plus model using the latest tried and tested technology to achieve sustainable code level 5.
Following a successful partnership to produce 22 new family homes in Woking, Hyde Housing association has signed an agreement with Greenoak to manage their scheme, Meadow View.
Residents were welcomed to their new homes by Housing Officer Ben Williams and a welcome party was held with a children’s entertainer and face painting. This enabled residents to get to know their new neighbours.
